Sketch A Day #12 - Adam Hughes Tonal Study

Found a great Captain Marvel piece by Adam Hughes on the web, and wanted to do a version with some of the similar tones on the toned paper to see how it would work. This uses both cool grey Copic markers and warm grey Copic markers on tonal paper with pencil, india ink and PH Martins white ink. While not entirely successful, this was an interesting experiment. thanks Adam for all the advice on working wet on wet with the Copic markers.

And please note that I believe Adam's piece to be infinitely better than mine, in both design and execution. He's a master at this stuff, so its just nice to have someone so solid in this type of work to look after for some ideas.

Crimson Empire Cover by Dorman & Yoakum

Finished up a great piece tonight, inks over the Dave Dorman rough for a Crimson Empire cover. Oddly enough, the interior was drawn by Paul Gulacy, who I worked with many times. I should have been inking the interior on that one!

Sketch A Day #6 - The Invincible Iron Man

Although, if you look through the George Tuska issues, Tony was pretty vincible when it comes down to it. Over in the Avengers he totally kicked ass, and then in his own book he was being whipped, melted, shot at, had chunks of his armor falling off at any provocation, constantly running out of power and falling to his knees and having his butt handed to him by the likes of Mikas, the Soulfather.

Yikes. Being an Iron Man fan was not easy.
